ANNOUNCEMENTS

MUES

Hello and welcome to our new and returning members, this year we have several new initiatives for our members to enjoy.

Firstly, some logistics. Membership for 2023 is now open and available here. The 2022 mailing list will no longer be used.

As you have noticed, we have updated our website and with this new home for our blog, Conflicting Ideas, we invite readers to send in their own ideas and contribute to the discussion.

We have now got a Discord server which you can join here. The intention here is to create a community for MUES members to discuss different topics and subjects. It will also act as a place for members to interact with executives.

During O-Week we will have a stall for the whole 5 days. Come say G’day, it would be really nice to talk to existing members. But of course, bring your friends too, and let them know about what we are doing.

In terms of events, this semester we are aiming to run six events; a meet and greet, two interesting theme-based events, two events for our case competition and a Ubar social towards the end of the semester.

Already mentioned are some of our other initiatives happening this year. Firstly, the inaugural MUES case competition will allow students to put themselves to the test and highlight their abilities to solve real-world problems. This will be aimed at more advanced students and will highlight their strengths and weaknesses and provide a signal to potential employers. Details to come. The second new initiative is a mentoring program. We all know how hard is to navigate university and career-related issues, so we thought we’d test the demand for our program like this. You can sign up to be a potential mentee here. There is value for both junior and senior students here, so don’t be shy, and get involved.

Lastly, it has to be noted, this doesn't happen without the tireless efforts of our volunteers. Starting with three executives during semester one last year, we have now grown to nine. Scaling a society and providing more value requires a strong team. If you’d like to get involved and help build something, apply here. It’s a great way to show community involvement or later on leadership experience, which we all know, employers love.
