Submission Guidelines

We are open to receiving articles from any faculty and encourage you to pursue diverse opinions and subjects.

We especially encourage submissions from First Nations People and members of the LGBTQIA+ community who can give a voice to issues that are underreported.

We do ask that your article relate to business or economics, although these concepts can be expressed or contextualised through a broad range of disciplines.

For example, on the subject of inflation, a:

  • Business School student may discuss its impact on monetary policy or specific industries,

  • Faculty of Arts student may discuss how it impacts the arts industry, or cultural norms,

  • Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences student may explore its impact on access to nutrition, health outcomes, or psychological impacts, and

  • Faculty of Science and Engineering student may quantify it and provide a data-driven analysis (many famous economists studied engineering!).

There are no limits to how to you approach your article, as long as you back up any claims with reliable sources, and consider the following guidelines.

General

Your article should:

  • Be between 600 and 800 words,

  • Be factual and include sources for any claims that are not self-evident,

  • Not include offensive language, and

  • Not impute a motive to a person or make unsubstantiated claims against them such that could be considered defamation.

Submission

  • Please email submissions to mqueconomicssociety@gmail.com

  • Use the following Subject convention “CI Submission – [Your Name] – [Article Title]"

  • Attach your article in an editable format such as Microsoft Word

Sources

  • Sources should be provided as hyperlinked text; An academic-style reference list is not required

  • Sources should be reliable and accessible (not behind a paywall).

  • Media articles are generally not considered reliable, unless the reference is for a comment provided to that media outlet, and the comment is not available elsewhere.
